Northwest Straits Profile of Sunlight Shores Shoreline Armor Removal Project
“Coastal Geological Services has completed the preliminary design for shore armor removal and nearshore restoration. Because of the size of the file it has been broken into two documents: Part 1 - the written report and Part 2 - the pictures and drawings. The preliminary design was completely paid for by a state grant. We will be seeking further grants to pay for the construction phase of the project.
The Board welcomes any comments about the proposed shoreline improvement project and will be scheduling a Community informational meeting to get feedback on the project.”

The SSCC Board requested a shoreline and bulkhead assessment by Coastal Geologic Services. The service was paid for by grant funds coordinated through Island County. The site assessment linked below states that the SSCC community shoreline and bulkhead are at very low risk for significant landward erosion. The report suggests that the community could benefit from restoration and soft-armoring replacement. The SSCC Board is investigating improvement possibilities and grant funding through Island County, Northwest Straits Foundation and others.
